Complete Guide to Fasting – review
Do you eat little but still gain weight? Do you get frustrated that you are exercising and eating well but still have either a weight plateau or even gaining weight? Then this may be the book for you.
Having started fasting some time ago doing the clean 9 (which is not a weight loss but a cleanse system) I realised that not only could I lose large amount of weight in a relatively short period of time, but it seemed to help my fatty liver issues and balance my hormones out. I did quite a bit of research and as in previous posts read Michael Mosely’s fast diet. So I bought the obesity code by Jason Fung and the complete guide to fasting. One seemed to be much more technical and the other a friendly easy read version.
The complete guide to fasting explains to you how to fast, why it works and the best way to do it for your particular circumstances. Everyone is different and that includes you! You may have a specific health issue or you may have particular family circumstances which you feel make weight loss harder and keeping healthy harder.
At this point I’ll also mention I’ve read Tim Ferris’s 4 hour workout too, which is very similar to Michaels fast exercise. In short there is a quicker and easier way to lose weight and get healthier but they way the health and nutrition information systems work, the information takes ages to get to you and so we end up using ideas from the past, which simply don’t work for us. The whole nation is getting bigger…. if the information worked well, then why would this be happening??
So, back to the book. The book is easy to read. has some great case studies and more importantly theres a whole section on the main ways that you can do it with charts t make it easier to remember. You do have to take heed of the cautions in there though, although Jason Fung and his team use it for diabetics, obviously thats under supervision so if you do have health issues, I would urge you to read it and then speak to your physician before starting anything on your own.
You get to find out the few pitfalls and work your way around them.
All in all I would highly recommend the book, especially if you are over 40, struggling to lose weight or have hormonal issues related to weight around your middle. Top marks from me 10/10 for an easy read, informative and helpful. I recommended this to my nutritionist friend as he had come across some issues where clients were not losing weight consistently and it appeared to be hormonal issues causing it.
I’ve put a link below to amazon (UK) so you can pick up the ISBN and read a little more about it (read inside).
I’ll be posting again about my experiences with fasting, as its been pretty powerful so far and may well help you.
Happy Reading!
