Getting your goals and realising your dreams
Like me you’ve probably heard a lot about vision boards. It’s often used to attract things towards you, law of attraction style. But from a psychological point of view its good to lay out all of your goals and then allow you to focus on achieving one at a time. Your subconscious can focus on what you are thinking about and then by nature when opportunities arise in your life, if you have focused on your goals you would be drawn to taking those opportunities on board. Giving yourself the chance you need to achieve what you wanted. Have you noticed when you get a new outfit or car or something similar, suddenly you notice that others have that too? This is the way the focusing works with the subconscious. You’ve probably had these things around you all along, but now you have thought about it and focused on it, it seems like its coming into your life more. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen plenty of articles demonstrating that observing reality changes it.
Creating a vision board
You may want to use Pinterest to do this, although I would say you can get completely distracted from your first purpose and go off on a tangent. If you are able to stick to one idea without jumping from one to another, Pinterest is a good tool. You may be like me, and prefer the good old paper version. Whichever you choose its definitely worth the effort.
Think about what you want to have or achieve?
Many of us don’t even know what we want, some of us are very goal focused. Whichever you are you need to get in touch with your goal. If you can daydream or meditate on it even better, but make sure that you really FEEL it. Do some research on it, find out about your goal, find out as much information as you can. If you can be quite specific on the goal too.
This is similar to the way sportsmen and women visualise their goals. The closer you are to feeling it the better. How do you feel, what do you see and hear, can you smell or taste anything. Really engage your senses and connect.
You may even find that you want to change your goal, as there is something about it that you don’t like and that’s fine too. Its your goal and you have to make it how you want it. This makes choice much easier when opportunities arise.
Making the vision board itself can be creative fun, but if you don’t like sticking and gluing, you can use Pinterest or a simple list with details or a mind map. Do whatever feels right to you as a person. (best free vision board software – Vision board app by Hay House gets great reviews, I’ve tried it and its really useful. see picture as an example)
If you are sticking magazine cuttings then you’ll need to get pictures or magazines. If you don’t want to buy magazines, you can do google searches on the internet and use the images. If you want to do the board as an image, then insert the images into a document or picture package.
The most important thing is to focus on what you DO want to generate in your life. You mind doesn’t work with negatives and you can easily focus on things that you don’t want. If I ask you NOT to think of a pink elephant, your mind may automatically wander there… its the same principle.
Once you have done your board, display it so you see it every day….. screen saver, pin board that you look at each day or screen capture… a poster or pin board that you have somewhere you look every single day… it will start to go into your subconscious mind and maybe you’ll stop noticing changes happening. 🙂
Here’s a video from the great Jack Canfield, explaining some of the reasons why vision boards are so great and how to go about using one.
